In the wake of President Trump cutting the boundaries of Bear’s Ears National Monument, a sacred homeland to the Navajo and other tribes, Alta Magazine sent writer Rob Schultheis and Gordon Wiltsie to visit the scene, talk with locals and capture in pictures the landscapes were at stake, many of them far more important and spectacular than the humble Bears Ears Buttes, themselves.  We salute President Biden’s recent order to restore the original size and added protections.
