North Pole and the Arctic Ocean
The Roof of the World 1987 and 2001
In addition to Gordon’s coverage of Will Steger’s dog sledding across the Arctic Ocean, when Gordon spent a month near the North Pole, he’s visited it two other times, once by ski plane in 1987 as a guide and camp manager for renowned British artist Andy Goldsworthy and again in 2001 aboard a Russian icebreaker, which reached the Pole after stopping at numerous seldom-visited polar islands north of the Siberian coast. Participants included Andy Goldsworthy, Mike McDowell, Victor Boyarsky and Gordon Wiltsie.
