Gordon Wiltsie

Gordon Wiltsie is a prolific storyteller, artist and explorer who has conceived and documented scores of expeditions to some of the world’s remotest locations, including previously unexplored wilderness regions of Antarctica, the Arctic, the Himalaya, Central Asia and South America. Since the mid-1970’s his writing and pictures have appeared in more than a hundred publications around the world, including the earliest issues of Mountain Gazette and Outside and later a string of features for National Geographic, Geo, Travel & Leisure, Ski and many others.

For more than 45 years his work has helped to inspire the modern outdoor lifestyle and appreciation for protecting our planet’s special places and peoples. The Explorers Club recently cited Gordon as one of the leading expedition photographers of his generation.

Gordon strives for technical excellence, whether indoors or out, and also has developed a keen eye for architecture, events and assignment advertising for a broad variety of clients, including The North Face, Patagonia, Kelty, Sportif, Nike and many others, His pictures have also helped to promote the work of many non-profits such as the American Himalayan Foundation, American Prairie Reserve, Sierra Club and Greater Yellowstone Coalition.

He is a captivating speaker and a gifted teacher who loves sharing his experience with younger photographers and anyone interested in adventures and the outdoor world.

Gordon has photographed several books and is the author of “To the Ends of the Earth - The Adventures of an Expedition Photographer.” He is the father of two grown sons and lives near Half Moon Bay, California, with his wife and partner Meredith.
